To add a host in MSA 2040 SAN storage first you need to determine the host’s WWN or IQN. WWN is an identity of an FC HBA card, If any Unix server or system is connected to one or more SAN switches through Fibre Channel (FC) HBA cards then it is very important for the storage team that they assign the storage to the correct server via WWN numbers of FC HBA cards.

Add Host in MSA 2040 SAN
Follow the steps given below to add a host in MSA 2040 SAN Storage.
- First, find the host’s WWN or IQN. You can see the articles given above to find the WWN of a UNIX system.
- Login to HPE Storage Management Utility (SMU) by using credentials, default username/password are manage/!manage.
- In the Configuration View panel, right-click the system or Hosts and then select Provisioning >> Add Host. You can also select the same from the right side as shown in the screenshot.
- In the right-side panel, enter the details as asked in below screenshot.
- Host ID (WWN/IQN): Enter the host’s WWPN or IQN. A WWPN value can include a colon between each pair of digits but the colons will be discarded.
- Host Name: This field is populated with a default name, which can be changed to a name that helps the user easily identify the host. For example, serverhostname_FC1. If a server is connected through two FC then it becomes easy to identify as _FC1/FC2. A hostname is case sensitive and can have a maximum of 32 bytes.
- Profile:
- Standard: Default profile.
- HP-UX: The host uses Flat Space Addressing.
- After filling in the above details, click on Add Host button.
- If the host will be added successfully then you will get the message for successful add. Click on OK, the new host appears in the Configuration View panel.
Note: If the server is connected to more than one FC then you need to repeat the above process for each and every FC.
