If you are on macOS Mojave or using an older version of macOS then you should upgrade your OS to the latest macOS Catalina 10.15. macOS Catalina has many new features and security fixes.

Follow the steps given below to upgrade your macOS Mojave 10.14 to macOS Catalina 10.15.
Upgrade macOS Mojave to Catalina
- First, check the version of macOS installed on your MacBook. To check it click on the Apple icon on the top-left corner and after that click on About This Mac
- This window will show the installed version of macOS on your MacBook, along with configurations. Here you can see macOS Mojave 10.14.6 is installed on this MacBook. that Click on the Software Update button for checking the updates.
- It will take a moment to check the updates for your installed version of the software.
- The update is available macOS Catalina. Click on Upgrade Now button to start the upgrade process of your macOS from Mojave to Catalina.
- Downloading of new updates started. As you can see from the below image that the total size of the update is 8.23 GB so it will take some time to download, depending on the speed of your internet connection.
- Download completed and the software is ready to install. Click on the Continue button.
- To accept the terms of the software license agreement, click on Agree button.
- Click on Agree button to continue.
- Click on Install to proceed with the installation of the software.
- If your MacBook is not connected to a power source then it will display a warning message, connect the computer to a power source if required and click on the Continue button.
- Enter the administrator’s credentials to proceed with the installation.
- Installation started, it will take around half an hour to complete the installation.
- Click on the Restart button to install macOS Catalina. Your computer/MacBook may restart more than once during installation.
- After successful installation of macOS Catalina, you will get the login screen. Login to your MacBook and go to About This Mac and verify the version of the macOS. Here it is showing macOS Catalina version 10.15.4. Click on Software Update.
- Here it is showing the message “Your Mac is up to date – macOS Catalina 10.15.4”, which means you are running the latest version of macOS available for your system.
Note: I have upgraded the macOS from Mojave 10.14 to Catalina 10.15 on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)
