Problem

I got the below error while activating the Windows Server 2019 Standard by entering the product key which I had purchased.

The product key you entered didn’t work. Check the product key and try again, or enter a different one. (0x80070490)

Reason

I talked to Microsoft Support Team, after diagnosing the issue they found that I had installed the trial version of Windows Server 2019 Standard and purchased a license for Windows Server 2019 Standard through Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center which can’t be applied on this trial version.

To apply the purchased licensed key I need to download the ISO file for Windows Server 2019 Standard from Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center and install the same.

but after a few days, it becomes shut down automatically and it was asking for a license. I have purchased a license for Windows Server 2019 Standard through Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center. I got the key, but when I tried to apply

Solution

I have downloaded the Windows Server 2019 Standard from Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center and installed the same. After that, I entered the product key to activate the license and it becomes successfully activated.

Activate Windows Server 2019 Standard

• Right-click on the window start icon and click on Run
  

  01 Activate Windows Server 2019 Standard

• It will open the Run window where you can type a command to run it.
  

  02 Activate Windows Server 2019 Standard

• Type the command slui 3 and press Enter
  

  03 Activate Windows Server 2019 Standard

• It will open the windows activation window with a pop-up to enter a product key
  

  04 Activate Windows Server 2019 Standard

• Enter the product key which you have purchased from Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center and click on Next Button.
• Click on Activate button to activate your windows.
  

  05 Activate Windows Server 2019 Standard

• Wait for a while and your Windows Server 2019 Standard will be activated.
  

  06 Activate Windows Server 2019 Standard

Note: The activation process shown above will work only if your server will be connected to the Internet. If you haven’t internet access on your server then you need to call to Microsoft Support Center to activate your Windows Server.
