When you turn on your Laptop and it checks the Hard Drive or SSD and after that, it loads the operating system which may be Windows or Linux or any other. But sometimes you need to boot into an alternate environment which is not on your hard drive. You might need to install an operating system or scan for malware from inside a clean environment. That’s when you need t boot from an Optical Drive (CD/DVD) or Flash Drive.
Problem:
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop whose OS was corrupted and I tried to install a new operating system on it. The DVD Drive of this system was not working so I used an external USB DVD drive to install the OS. I tried many times by changing the boot sequence etc. but have not become successful. In BIOS boot options, there were two options to select the boot from USB CD/DVD Drive or Optical Drive.
Reason:
Internal CD/DVD Drive.
Solution:
After so many tries, I became frustrated and removed the internal CD/DVD Drive from the laptop. After that when I tried to boot from the external USB DVD drive it was a surprise for me. The laptop booted from the external USB DVD drive successfully.
So, if your laptop is not booting from an external USB CD/DVD drive then you need to remove the internal CD/DVD Drive from the laptop and your laptop will be able to boot from an external USB CD/DVD drive.
Removing of internal CD/DVD Drive from the laptop is very easy and you can remove it easily with a screwdriver. If you have any other solution just share it here.
